The Mercedes Benz 300 SL started life as a race car in 1952 but was toned down for consumer production in 1954. Despite being made in Germany, the car was introduced at the New York Auto Show and instantly became popular with the sporty American elite. It stood out with its unique gullwing doors, production fuel injection, and, of course, speed, topping out at 160 mph.

Usually, a roadster/convertible is more valuable than a coupe due to rarity, but the opposite is true for the 300 SL. Only 1,400 coupes were built overall, with 308 in 1956. Mr. Rich purchased this car at auction in 1989 and it is always a hit at auto shows. It was a feature car at the 2018 Geneva Concours D’Elegance. Not only was it photographed for the front cover of their program, but it was also prominently displayed at one of the entrances and chosen as the best example of a Mercedes Benz SL.
