Mr. Rich started his car collection in earnest in 1991 to fill up the newly completed Car Museum. At the top of his list was this BMW E31 850i, the most powerful car at the time.
The 850i was the first generation of the BMW 8 Series, which began production in 1990. Three more models (840Ci, 850Ci, 850CSi) would follow in 1992, but, for two years, the 850i remained uncontested. As a result, it is more on the common side for collectors, with 20,072 produced. With a 5.0-litre M70B50 V12 engine, the 850i was famous for having almost 300 horsepower. It also came standard with a car phone.
