With production beginning in 1908, the Ford Model T was one of the first vehicles to be built by Ford’s famous moving assembly line, complete with interchangeable parts. Because it was mass produced instead of hand-crafted, it had a low price point ($260-$900) that put car ownership within reach of average middle-class Americans. It is no surprise then that the Model T became known as the ‘world’s most affordable car’ during its 19-year production run. Overall, a total of 14,689,525 were produced, and to this day remains one of the most sold cars of all time.
Even though Ford classified the Model T with a single letter designation and made no distinction by model years, there were enough changes made over time that there are five loosely defined generations. This Model T falls in the third generation (1917-1923), distinguished by its low hood. This generation was the longest and took place during the highest production years, accounting for about half of the total number of Model Ts built, so while this car isn’t unique, no car museum would be complete without it.
