Originally, Ferrari produced Formula 1 race cars, and only got into the road car game in 1947 to fund their racing team. The first Ferraris can still be used for racing, all the way up until Ferrari produced the 308 GTB. Introduced in 1975, it was a two-seater sports car and nothing else.

Despite the 308 GTB’s near instant popularity, it required constant redesigns to be suitable for market, especially for America. For example, due to the strictness of emission regulations, the 308 GTB’s PS levels had to be bumped down from 255 to 240 using an emission controlling device. 308 GTBs destined for American markets also had their dry sump lubrication engines swapped out for the conventional wet sump engine of its sister car, the Dino 308 GT4. In 1977, the year of this car’s production, the body was changed from glass-reinforced plastic to steel, increasing the car’s overall weight by 331 pounds. This is one of the heavier Ferraris.
