This first-generation Ford GT may be from this century, but even it is full of history. Created to celebrate Ford’s 100th anniversary, the GT is a visual homage to Ford’s GT40, a popular racing car in the mid-to-late 60s, but it is structurally closer to the Mustangs and Thunderbirds Ford is famous for producing. The GT was originally intended to only be produced for the 2005 model year, so only 4,038 were made. At the time, demand was high and the buyers high-profile. The first private buyer was a former Microsoft executive who placed an over half a million-dollar bid at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance just for the right to purchase it.

The GT proved to be so popular that production began again for the 2017 model year. These second generations lack the exclusivity and notoriety of the first, but they are just as fast, clocking in at over 200 mph, and are often used for racing, just like its namesake.
