Chevrolet’s Advanced Design was a light-to-medium-duty truck series and their first redesign after World War II. First available in 1948, the trucks received minor updates until they were replaced with the Task Force series in 1955. During the production of the Advanced Design series, Chevrolet was the number one truck supplier in the United States.
This is a 1951 Chevrolet 3100, the smallest of the trucks, which could only haul about a half ton. The 1951 Advanced Design models were marked by vent windows on the doors. It was also the last year the trucks’ window and windshield wiper handles had chrome knobs, as well as a speedometer that went up to 80 miles per hour. The design of these types of trucks proved to be very popular, to the point where they served as inspiration for the Chevrolet SSR and HHR produced in the 2000s. It is a beautiful piece of American car history, wonderfully restored by United Auto & Truck Body in Mountain Home, AR.
