MG is a British automotive marque founded by Cecil Kimber in the 1920s. The ‘MG’ comes from Morris Garages, a car dealership owned by English motor manufacturer William Morris that sold Morris Motors Limited cars. Morris Garages hired Kimber to be its sales manager in 1921. To increase sales, Kimber modified the cars being sold, creating the first MGs. These ‘Kimber Specials’ proved to be so popular that Kimber’s work was split off to form The M.G. Car Company, or MG for short.
Unfortunately, Kimber and Morris had a falling out, with Kimber leaving MG in 1941. MG was eventually absorbed into the British Motor Corporation in 1952, a merger of Morris Motors Limited and The Austin Motor Company Limited.
This 1953 MG Roadster might not be the rarest or most expensive car in the Rich Harvest Farms Car Museum, but it has a lot of personal significance to Mr. Rich. It was owned by his uncle Alfred “Al” Rich, and it was the first car that Mr. Rich drove by himself. When the car came into his hands years later, it inspired him to start his auto collection. If it wasn’t for this roadster, there would be no Rich Harvest Farms Car Museum!
