NORMAN, Okla. – The first spring edition of the 2015 Palmer Cup Ranking was released Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The top six golfers from the final ranking in April from both the United States and Europe will be among the 20 collegiate golfers selected to compete in the Palmer Cup at Rich Harvest Farms June 12-14. Those 20 players will be announced by the GCAA mid-April.
For the United States, the remaining four players will be selected using three committee picks and one coaches’ pick. One of the US committee picks must be a non-Division I golfer. The final four spots on Team Europe will include the champion of The R&A Foundation Scholars Tournament, two committee picks and one coaches pick. European Palmer Cup Selection Committee and coaches picks will use the same criteria as their US counterparts. They may also select college golfers competing both in the United States and Europe.
To compile the Palmer Cup ranking, the GCAA uses Golfstat’s NCAA Player Ranking as a base, players then receive bonus points for wins and high finishes and negative points poor finishes to arrive at the final ranking. The equation also includes a strength of schedule component. The next ranking will be released March 19.
The annual Ryder Cup-style competition, put on by the GCAA will be played at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, IL. Both general admission and parking at the event will be free of charge. Spectators will also be able to walk the fairways with the players during the tournament.
