SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (Aug. 6, 2015) … Robby Shelton of Wilmer, Alabama earned medalist honors Thursday at the 113th Western Amateur following an 11-under par performance in stroke play this week at Rich Harest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
A highly decorated junior at the University of Alabama, Shelton was tied for seventh heading into the fourth round before firing a 5-under 67 to join the likes of Bobby Jones, Chick Evans and other of the game’s greats as medalist at the Western Amateur. Shelton’s final round was his best of the week and included five birdies and an eagle.
Awaiting Shelton in the first round of match play tomorrow is Florida State All-American Jack Maguire who recently made the cut at the U.S. Open.
